X-Rae in Pink
- Date: c. 1995
- Medium: 35mm color film, digitally refined
- Format: Proofs only
X-Rae in Pink is a single photographic work created using 35mm color film. While the image was later scanned and digitally refined, the piece was never brought to completion and exists only in the form of working proofs. As with other early photographic efforts by the artist, it remains a fragment—part of a process rather than a finished body of work..
The image presents a portrait of a model in profile, her form isolated against a black background. The intense magenta of her hair, almost electric in contrast to the subdued palette of skin and shadow, evokes themes of self-presentation, transformation, and resistance. The composition’s stark simplicity draws attention to the body as both subject and symbol—exposed yet composed, tender yet deliberate. X-Rae in Pink becomes a study in contradictions: identity both revealed and withheld, the figure both an individual and a construct of the lens.
