Video Experiment 2

  • Date: c. 1993
  • Medium: 8mm Analog Video Tape recorded to VHS Tape
  • Format: VHS Video Tape, 4:3 SD, color, sound, Single Edition
  • Duration: ~3 minutes
  • Notes: Presumed lost.

Video Experiment 2 serves as a companion piece to Video Experiment 1, continuing an early investigation into analog video feedback loops. As with its predecessor, this piece began with an original source video, recorded on 8mm analog video tape using a Sony video camera. The footage features a live model moving through various poses, offering a more dynamic foundation for the feedback process.

The visual content was processed by aiming the camera at a television monitor during playback, generating layered feedback patterns in real time. The output was recorded onto VHS tape via a connected VCR. Meanwhile, a pre-recorded soundtrack—composed on a Yamaha PSR-500 keyboard and recorded to audio cassette—was live-dubbed into the recording through the VCR's audio inputs, creating a synchronized audio-visual experience.

Produced as a single edition, Video Experiment 2 is presumed lost. The original 8mm source tape has not been recovered. However, several still images from the initial video (prior to feedback) and the original audio cassette containing the soundtrack remain extant.
