Video Experiment 1 is a unique piece of video art that explores the mesmerizing effects of video feedback loops. An initial video was created as the basis for the feedback process, combining modeling photographs (provided by a friend) and hastily drawn graphics. These source materials were recorded onto 8mm analog video tape using a Sony video camera.
The tape was then played back through the camera and displayed on a standard television monitor. During playback, the camera was aimed at the screen, generating dynamic video feedback loops. The output was simultaneously recorded to VHS tape via a connected VCR. Although the source material was composed of static images, motion was introduced by moving the camera while recording.
Produced as a single edition, the completed video is presumed lost. However, a few low-fidelity stills from the original 8mm stage —captured from a television screen before any feedback was applied— still exist, offering a faint glimpse into the piece’s foundational material.
